Through the Past
In the U.S., nearly 4 million people or 4% of the workforce
spent half of their time working from home in 2017, an
increase of more than double when compared to 2005;
Most of them are also over the age of 35.
In 2007, Cisco Systems, with 70,000 employees in 70
countries around the world, started to allow employees to
work from home for 30% of their office time, that is, working
from home 1.5 days every week. The company said that
it is a win-win solution: it not only reduces the number
of employees commuting to work, but also reduces the 035
company's costs. It is reported that Cisco has reduced
office space by 5 million sq. ft. in the past five years.
The Wall Street Journal reported that some employees
have two jobs at a time, which could be inspiring.
During the daytime, the interviewees work in high-pay jobs
with large organisations, they may be a software engineer
or a technical consultant, etc. However, at nighttime or on
the weekend, they pursue personal interests by working as
a disc jockey, singer, or actor.
